MONSTER NEEDS AN INTERVIEW!
Hi Monster! Don’t be nervous. Why don’t we get started by asking what fuels your vivid imagination?
Nervous? Who’s nervous! This is the coolest thing to happen next to the time I was cooking for all my friends but I didn’t really know what I was doing but then Boy helped and we made a huge meal for everyone to eat except then I had to clean up and that wasn’t much fun but then we got to enjoy the party…wait what did you ask?
Where do you get all of your energy?
I don’t know, people always tell me that I have a little piece of the sun inside me. So I guess that’s what keeps me going! Speaking of going have you ever been on a trip? I soooo want to go on a trip all around the world and see lions and kinkajous and see where karate started and maybe even visit my cousin Nessy in Scottland.
You seem to let Boy do all of the storytelling for you. Did you request this interview to let your own voice be heard? If so, what do you want to tell us?
Well Boy is pretty smart so I usually let him do all the talking. Sometimes talking gets in the way of doing stuff like the time Boy told me I needed a bath but I didn't want a bath I wanted to play hide and go seek! Though that didn't end well since I hid in the same spot as a skunk.
What is the hardest thing about being the main character in a picture book? I mean… the title even bears your name!
I’m in a book?!? That’s so awesome! I love books I have a ton of them pretty soon I’m going to go to school so that I can learn how to read. Can you read yet? You probably can. I love it when boy reads to me before bed time, that’s when I try to sneak in as many books as I can.
I understand that bedtime was not previously something you looked forward to. Has that changed at all after the Monster Needs His Sleep gig?
Well Boy helped me out a lot, which is why he is my best friend but I still don’t like the dark, it’s creepy and creepy things creep me out.
Kids are usually afraid of the dark because of monsters. You ARE a monster. Why are YOU afraid of the dark?
Look the dark is scary, you can't see in it. Who knows what could be hiding in it! Plus everyone is afraid of something. With me it's the dark, and baths, and the barber, and the dentist. I'm not a huge fan of needles either, they are very pointy and pointy things creep me out.
Read a lot of books! They help with having really cool dreams. Don't drink a lot of water before bed time, bad things can happen when you do that. I also love my little blue glowing friend Boy gave me. At night time I sing a little song that helps me fall asleep, "I'm your only friend I'm not your only friend but I'm a little glowing friend but really I'm not actually your friend. But I am...."
That song is really lovely, Monster! Any last c omments before we close the interview?
Yes! Boy and me have a lot happening and we are going to a lot of different places! Like Knowledge Beginnings, and Then story time at the Memorial Hall Library in Andover, I love the library! Then we're going to be on TV! On Off The Shelf on DCAT. You can find all the dates and even more stuff we will be doing on paulczajak.com. Paul can be a little bossy but he knows where we need to be.
NESCBWI Conference!" I think you are right... Paul really does know where you guys are headed! Thank you for being my guest today. Please tell Paul that I say "hello" and "see you at the
